queer pelvic floor therapist, holding pelvis model, smiling and appearing happy and comfortable

I’m thrilled to meet you.

I’m Dr. Rebecca Redman (they/she/he), an occupational therapist with a rich background in orthopedic rehab, Pilates, and strength training. I specialize in treating pelvic floor dysfunction and chronic pain for individuals of all gender identities, all sexualities, and across the anatomical spectrum, always prioritizing your comfort and emotional well-being. The pelvis and surrounding muscles and organs are closely connected to the nervous system, so a wide lens and whole body approach can create positive change in multiple ways at once. This means looking at the full picture of you, considering not just the physical health of your tissues and movement patterns, but also the emotional and environmental factors that may be contributing to your symptoms. By combining physical care and psychological strategies, my techniques empower you with tools to achieve lasting relief, with a treatment plan that is comprehensive and uniquely yours.

I know firsthand how alienating it can feel to have your symptoms downplayed, or even completely dismissed. I’m here to listen, understand, and truly appreciate the full story of you and your experience.

When I'm not working with clients, you’ll likely find me hiking with my dog and partner, playing drums in a band, or creating weird art somewhere.

About Soft Power

Soft Power is a truly trauma-informed, gender-affirming, and body-neutral space.

I want you to be yourself and experience healthcare that prioritizes your consent, your experience, and your goals. As a sex-positive, kink-positive, and poop positive therapist, I’m ready to engage in discussions about the traditionally taboo topics you’ve never felt comfortable talking about with your healthcare provider. I understand that pelvic health issues are deeply personal, but you don’t need to give me an edited version of your story. I will do my best to earn your trust so I can provide you with the affirming, expert care you need to feel heard and supported. Your experience and preferences will always be embraced without shame or stigma.

As an out of network provider, I am able to offer hour-long sessions and highly personalized and efficient care. You don’t need a referral and we don’t need to rely on your insurance company to validate your pelvic health concerns.

I stay up-to-date on the latest research and will provide you with a tailored program based on the best available evidence and clinical recommendations for treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and management of chronic pain. I also know that healing is not always linear, and can require patience, flexibility, and sometimes a little experimentation. That’s why my approach is dynamic, always adapting to fit your unique needs.

Pelvic health is often misunderstood and overlooked because symptoms have become widely normalized and are largely underreported. We also know symptoms can have huge detrimental effects, both physically and emotionally, and affect people of any age, gender, or background.

Whether you're trying to stop leaking, find relief from pain, enjoy sex again, or recover optimally from surgery, your ideal outcome is our priority.

It’s common to feel isolated, but at Soft Power, you are not alone. I recognize that you are a unicorn, and I’m here to provide care that works for you. A generic, one-size-fits-all approach just doesn’t work in pelvic health and you deserve to have the best chance at regaining control of your life, feeling better, and using your time and energy to do what you love.

Accessibility

The Soft Power clinic is up a rather long flight of stairs with sturdy handrails on both sides. There are two single stall, all-gender bathrooms right outside the clinic door in the hallway that you’re welcome to use. The waiting and treatment areas are set up with seating options that can accommodate a variety of body sizes and shapes. The clinic does not use scented products of any kind.

I’m happy to wear a mask and will default to mirroring your mask etiquette. If you’re wearing a mask, but you need to see my mouth when I’m speaking to better understand me, just let me know and I’ll take my mask off.

There is free 90 minute parking on Solano Ave, San Pablo Ave, and around the corner on neighborhood streets. Please be respectful of the residents if you park in a neighborhood. When you reach the door to 1057 Solano, you can press the button for #104 and I will buzz you in.

I realize stairs can be a big barrier in physical accessibility. If stairs or anything else makes the Soft Power clinic feel like the wrong place for you, please reach out because I do have some other options of ways we can work together, like an alternate location, in-home visit, or virtual sessions.

Why choose Soft Power?

  1. You get expert care from a totally nerdy provider who spends 92% of their free time reading research articles and learning more about pelvic health and chronic pain, specifically. You’re not just getting standard care from a generalist provider; you’re receiving an invitation to collaborate on your care from a true pelvic health specialist and devotee.

  2. You get time and consistency with hour-long sessions that focus on you with the same provider every time. That means your therapist will learn more about you, your history, your tendencies, your goals, (and probably your pets) with every session to provide even more personalized care every time you visit.

  3. The treatment space is beautiful and comfortable and doesn’t feel like a doctor’s office. You won’t just be told to relax with your pants off in a cold unfriendly room.

  4. Your provider is not just queer & trans friendly, fat friendly, and sex worker friendly. She has competence in treating folks with a variety of identities and expressions and wants to honor your unique experience. You will never be expected to educate your provider on how to be respectful around people with diverse bodies, identities, or preferences.

  5. Treatment is trauma-informed. Every minute of your session will focus on your consent and your comfort. Your provider will give you suggestions, but you’re always in charge.

  6. Your therapist has been the pelvic floor therapy patient. Sometimes providers don’t know what it’s like to be on the other side of really intimate healthcare, and it makes a huge difference in bedside manner when we have personally endured the same anxiety-inducing experiences.

  7. You will get more than passive treatments. Manual therapy and other modalities can feel really nice and can certainly play a big role in nervous system regulation, but both research and clinical experience have shown significant positive changes in recovery time and symptom management when patients take an active role in their own care.

  8. This is not just kegels. You will only get kegels in your home exercise program if you REALLY need them, and this is a small percentage of patients. There is so much more to pelvic floor therapy than squeezing your butthole.

  9. You will be educated on your symptoms and how to manage them. Your treatment will include strategies and tools you can use long term to manage your own symptoms. The goal is for you to finish your plan of care with everything you need, so you don’t need to come back. You get the power for once.
